Presidio ISD El Diablo Azul Formula One Team in Nationals
May 22, 2014
On May 16th and 17th the El Diablo Azul Formula 1 Team from Presidio ISD competed in the National Formula 1 in Schools Technology Challenge held at the Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Michigan. F1's mission is to challenge students, age 9-19, to work collaboratively on the design, analysis, and manufacture of a miniature (compressed air powered) balsa wood F1 car. Teams are judged and scored in five categories including Verbal Presentation, Engineering Design, Portfolio, Pit Display, and in the final stage of competition teams put their designs to the test as they race to see who will be crowned champion.
Despite being first time contenders in the competition, El Diablo Azul had an impressive showing, taking home the prestigious Judges Choice award. Over the course of the school year, two PISD teams (Desert Inferno and El Diablo Azul), spent countless hours preparing for the Regional Formula 1 Technology Challenge which was held at the famed Circuit of the Americas, in Austin Texas on April 5, 2014. Team El Diablo Azul placed third, securing a spot in the national competition.
The El Diablo Azul would like to thank the administrators, teachers, staff and the whole Presidio community.
