STEM Summer Camps
If you're looking for a great summer camp that combines Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics experiences with a lot of fun, we've got a few suggestions.
Summer camp offerings are provided by our university partners.
- Shake Hands With Your Future
Shake Hands is a summer residential camp for academically talented students. Students experience university life and attend two classes. The camp includes field trips, and recreational activities. In the summer of 2013, Shake Hands celebrates 33 years of serving gifted and talented children and youth.
- Science: It's a Girl Thing
Science: It's A Girl Thing is a residential camp for girls. The goals are to provide girls with strong role models and dispel myths and misconceptions about science and careers in science. Campers experience university life, hands-on classes and recreational activities.
- Run on the Wind: Engineering a Clean Tomorrow
Run on The Wind will provide young scholars an introduction to the field of wind science and an opportunity to consider wind science as a future academic pursuit.
- Summer Math Academy
The Texas Tech Summer Math Academy offers gifted high school math students an opportunity to collaborate with Texas Tech math faculty and staff in a project-based learning environment. Students will be exposed to many different facets of mathematics and learn to apply these through projects and research. The research project will allow students to work with Texas Tech professors on a daily basis and to present their findings at the culmination of the camp.
- Aggie STEM Summer Camp at A&M University
The Aggie center for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) is holding it's annual summer camp for middle and high school students. The summer camp will give students real world experiences in STEM education through inquiry learning, improve SAT scores and provide a world class university experience with Texas A&M University professors in STEM fields. Students will attend non-credit STEM classes by TAMU professors, Robotics class, Rocketry class, PSAT/SAT prep class, and a variety of social activities and local field trips. Students may choose from 2 different day camp options or choose the residence hall stay option.
- Summer Transportation Institute at Prairie View A&M University
The program is sponsored by Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) through the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT). The program is a four-week on-campus, learning opportunity for a diverse group of high school students (11th/12th Grade). The program provides experiences to enhance the student’s awareness of career opportunities that exist in the transportation industry. The curriculum exposes students to new frontiers and adventures such as highway design, the transportation of people and cargo, intermodal (involving more than one form) transportation, safety, environmental issues and broader civil engineering related career opportunities.
- My Introduction to Engineering (MITE) Summer Camp
MITE is a six day residential program that presents current high school juniors with the opportunity to discover engineering through hands-on activities and interaction with engineering students, faculty, staff and alumni. All program expenses are paid with the exception of travel to and from UT Austin. MITE is open to students with strong interests in engineering, science or math and a strong interest in applying to The University of Texas at Austin. Students must also meet at least one of the following academic criteria: score a minimum of 60 on the PSAT math section, score a minimum of 600 on the SAT math section, or rank in the top 10% of their class. Outstanding African American, Hispanic and Native American students, as well as those who have overcome any social or economic hardship, are strongly encouraged to apply.
