The Texas Success Initiative (TSI), which became state law in 2003, is a program of assessment, advising, developmental education, and student support services that is designed to ensure that students have the skills they need to succeed in college. Currently, Texas institutions rely on five core standardized assessments (TAKS, ACCUPLACER, ASSET, COMPASS, and THEA) to determine college readiness for First Time In College (FTIC) students. All students who participate in TTAP must show proof of testing through one of the five core standardized tests. Students are required to test in three areas: Reading, Writing, and Math if they do not meet TSI compliance through SAT/ACT or TAKS scores. To qualify for TTAP, a student must be TSI compliant in Reading and Writing prior to TTAP Student Orientation. A student is not required to be college ready in math but must still show proof of a completed standardized assessment. Students who do not pass the math portion will be required to take a developmental math class in addition to their TTAP courses. Students who do not have TAKS scores can schedule placement exams for one of the five standardized tests at an area community college or at Texas Tech University. Make sure the institution you test with is willing to release scores to you. To view more TSI information, please visit the following link LINK or contact the TTAP office 806.742.3664
