Calvert Education Services and Texas Tech Launch K-5 Distance Learning Program

Calvert Education Services (CES) and Texas Tech University Independent School District (TTUISD) in Lubbock, Texas, announce an innovative partnership for the State of Texas. Through this unique collaboration, TTUISD and CES will offer a customized version of the world-renowned Calvert School curriculum for Kindergarten through 5th grade students. The curriculum is aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).
Brady Locher, Calvert’s Director of Partnership Development, said, “ TTUISD and Calvert share an educational vision that embraces inspiring the best in each student through supervised instruction, engaging curriculum and successful academic outcomes. We are excited to be able to offer this program in Texas.”
Speaking on behalf of Texas Tech University Independent School District (TTUISD), Dr. Matt Baker, Dean of University College, Texas Tech University said, “We could not be more delighted about the TTUISD/Calvert partnership in the Lone Star State. We are confident that TTUISD’s long-standing reputation of quality and service will be enhanced through Calvert’s online platform and innovative pedagogy that will enable this innovative partnership to provide world-class online education to Texans and those students outside of the state seeking a high-quality online experience through one of the largest state-accredited school district’s in the world.
The TTUISD/Calvert partnership may have statewide implications. Beginning in the fall of 2010, selected Texas school districts and open-enrollment charters may provide online learning options to enrolled public school students in Grades 3-9 through the Texas Education Association’s Electronic Course Program (eCP). Those districts may offer the TTUISD/Calvert program.

About Texas Tech University Independent School District
Texas Tech University Independent School District (TTUISD) was established by the State Board of Education in the fall of 1993. TTUISD currently provides educational solutions to students by providing supplemental and home school curriculum offered at a distance. The district also works with other schools to offer testing solutions, a dropout prevention alternative and a credit recovery option. Currently, TTUISD has more than 1,800 full-time students enrolled. TTUISD is accredited by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), and all courses and credit by exams are aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).
