TTUISD Opens a Window of Opportunity for a Student
June 26, 2009
Involved is a good way to describe Kayla, a soon-to-be senior from Arlington, Texas, who is making the most out of her high school career.
Kayla is an active member of her school’s cross country team as well as an officer in student council where she was recently elected to be senior class treasurer. She also plans pep rallies and various school events such as Powder Puff games. Needless to say, between her school work and extracurricular activities, Kayla manages a busy schedule. However, throughout the week, she still finds time to babysit, to work as a shampoo technician and to volunteer in her community.
When Kayla’s school schedule became as booked as her personal schedule, she was faced with a dilemma.
“I wanted to take a double-blocked health science class, but I didn’t have the room in my schedule to take this class and the core classes I needed in order to graduate,” she said.
Kayla turned to TTUISD for the solution. She was able to take her required core classes through TTUISD’s supplemental class program, which allowed her to enroll in the health science course.
“Thanks to the health science course, I was able to see different health careers and narrow my list down to exactly what I want to be when I graduate from high school,” she said. “If it wasn’t for the program, then I would have missed out on that opportunity.”
After graduation, Kayla plans to continue her education, and she hopes to one day become a doctor.
Good luck on your future endeavors, Kayla!
