Texas Wind Energy Institute Announces $85,000 Available for Graduate Certificate Student Scholarships

LUBBOCK, TX (Nov. 24) – After the Dec. 10, 2009 deadline, 15 students will receive over $85,000 in scholarships from the Texas Wind Energy Institute at Texas Tech University. Five students will be selected to receive Industry Scholarships at $5,000 a piece and 10 applicants will receive Instructor Scholarships at $6,000 each. These scholarships are available both to students who are currently working towards a graduate certificate or students who are interested in completing the program. The application can be downloaded at www.texaswindenergyinstitute.ttu.edu.

There are currently 30 students enrolled in the 15 credit hour graduate certificate program. Students within this program can pursue a certificate on the managerial or the technical track. The managerial track is designed for professionals working in managerial or supervisory positions. The technical track is geared toward professionals working in the technical aspects of the industry such as engineering, manufacturing, or design.

“The technical and managerial tracks were designed to meet the supplemental education needs of professionals,” said Liz Joost, project director of the Texas Wind Energy Institute. “We are excited to offer these scholarships to students at Texas Tech University.”

The Texas Wind Energy Institute (TWEI) is a partnership between Texas State Technical College and Texas Tech University. The Institute recognizes that the future of Texas wind energy lies in the hands of a well-educated, highly skilled workforce.
