Why should I take IS1100: RaiderReady?
IS1100: RaiderReady is designed to ensure your success in the first semester of your
college career. Students who enroll and complete the course have earned higher GPAs,
are more connected to Texas Tech, and are more likely to continue on to their second
year of studies here at Texas Tech.
RaiderReady faculty members help you plan and prepare for your academic career and identify resources that will help your personal and social success. RaiderReady faculty come from various departments from across campus, allowing them to bring a unique perspective to the course. RaiderReady allows you to work with a faculty member in a small group setting, meet new friends, and set up a support network for your success here at Texas Tech.
What is the cost of IS1100?
IS1100 is a one-hour academic course; therefore, there is tuition and fees associated with the course. These will amount to the same amount as any other one-hour academic course. Tuition and fees may vary from academic year to academic year.
Who teaches the class?
RaiderReady instructors are faculty of record in various departments and colleges from across the University; meaning, in addition to teaching a math, science, business, or law course they will also teach a section of IS1100. The faculty have been selected for the course because they have shown a true passion for your first-year success, and have been trained on how to ensure you are successful in your freshman year.
Will I earn a grade for IS1100?
Yes, IS1100 is a graded, academic credit earning course. Students enrolled in the course will receive one-hour of academic credit signified with the awarding of a grade of A, B, C, D, or F.
Is there a required textbook?
All sections of IS1100 use a required, common textbook. The text can be purchased both at the campus and off-campus bookstores and is linked with the course number IS1100.
I’ve heard the term “Freshman Seminar”, is this the same as IS1100?
Yes, Interdisciplinary Studies (IS)1100: RaiderReady is the official title of our freshman seminar course here at Texas Tech. Across campus, the two terms are used interchangeably.
