5A SPRING MEET EVENTS
2006  – REGION 1

 

Texas Tech University is pleased to accept the responsibility of hosting the Spring Meet contests of the University Interscholastic League, Region 1, Conference 5A.  It is our privilege to assist the public schools in having a superior meet.  High school sponsors and contest directors should be thoroughly familiar and responsive to the University Interscholastic League contest and rules.

Certification:
bulletDistrict Directors are responsible for certification and payment of fees for their district’s entries.
bulletIndividual coaches may fax or email copies of their entries’ for name spelling verification only.
bulletOnce participants are certified to district they are certified all the way to state competition.
Fee Payment:  Individual schools DO NOT provide payment to the Regional Director except the following additions where applicable: 
bulletGolf Coaches:  Please pay and schedule practice rounds with Rawls Golf Course.
bulletGolf Coaches:  Please pay Golf Medallist fee of $70, Sunday, April 23, for Girls and/or Tuesday, April 25 for Boys during the Coaches Meeting.
bulletOne-Act Play:  Prior to performance, each school entering a One-Act Play will pay a special $300 critic judges’ fee to the contest director.
bulletComputer Science:  Computer Science Teams shall provide one unopened package (10) of formatted disks (must have cellophane wrapping undisturbed).  The disk will be returned upon completion of the hands-on competition.  Each school team must provide the computer program.  For information contact Contest Director:  Nelson Rushton:  nelson.rushton@ttu.edu
Alternates:
bulletAlternates for contestants unable to participate in the Regional meet must have qualified as runners-up in the district meet. 
bulletThe local school official must notify the District Meet Director and the District Meet Director will notify the Regional Director.  It is suggested the local school official also notify the Regional office.
bulletSubstitutions for academic meet events will be made after meet officials receive a signed fax from a designated school official and/or the district director.  An email to Lynn Elms is encouraged to alert officials of the change. The fax should be sent to Lynn Elms, 806-742-2350.
Food Service:
bulletThe snack bar in the University Center will be open to visitors for the Academic and OAP competitions. 
bulletNumerous restaurants are within walking distance of the campus.
bulletThe University Interscholastic League encourages schools to support the restaurants listed in this handbook.

Computer Use for Journalism and Ready Writing Events:
Computers may be used for Journalism and Ready Writing events.  The contact site is responsible for the room, desks, and outlets.  See schedule of events for equipment provided by Texas Tech.  When providing your own equipment please consider bringing extension cords and power strips as rooms may have limited outlets.
Academic State Packet Information & Mailing of Materials:
Students, coaches and/or school officials must attend verification periods and awards presentations.  Regional meet directors are under no obligation to contact winners who fail to attend awards presentations nor to provide unclaimed materials (tests, medals, etc.) after the tournament.

Contest materials maybe mailed when the participant provides the CONTEST DIRECTOR prior to roll call a self-addressed, stamped, large clasp envelope.  The regional site does not guarantee mailed materials.

Following awards presentations Contest Directors return unclaimed contest materials to Meet Headquarters, TTU Library - Croslin Room.  Sponsors are encouraged to pickup unclaimed materials before leaving Texas Tech.
