Cameron Smith

Licensing Associate

Cameron Smith is a Licensing Associate in the Office of Research Commercialization, which serves Texas Tech University, Angelo State University, Texas Tech Health Sciences Centers, and the TTUHSC Paul L. Foster School of Medicine in El Paso. He is a licensed Patent Attorney with intellectual property management and licensing experience.

Cameron uses his knowledge as an experienced Patent Attorney and Licensing Associate to guide System inventors to both patentable and marketable aspects of their technologies. He is a valuable resource for faculty and students with questions about the patenting process and frequently guest lectures across campus. In addition, Cameron works to bridge the gap between industry and academia by negotiating and executing new license agreements for System technologies. In this role, he also assists and provides IP support for various ORC, GLEAMM, and Venture Development initiatives.

Cameron received his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Texas Tech University in 2011. While at Texas Tech, he worked both as a researcher in Dr. Ximena Bernal's ecology lab at the Texas Tech Department of Biological Sciences and as a student analyst in Dr. Patrick Reynolds' lab at the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center. Upon graduation from Tech, Cameron attended St. Mary's University School of Law in San Antonio where he focused on intellectual property law and interned with the Office of Technology Commercialization at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Upon graduation from law school, Cameron moved to Austin where he worked in an intellectual property law firm before moving back to Lubbock to work for his alma matter.
