New Training and Disclosure Requirements for NIH Grant Recipients
By Amy Baugh

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) have made major changes in disclosure requirements for all investigators and personnel involved in NIH funded projects. The NIH changes affect the project director or principal investigator and any other person, regardless of title or position, who is responsible for the design, conduct, or reporting of research funded by the PHS (e.g., NIH), or proposed for such funding, including sub-recipients.

Faculty or other personnel who have or plan to apply for NIH funding must complete NIH-required training as soon as possible and file new financial disclosures soon after Aug. 24.

A new Texas Tech Operating Policy (OP) that addresses NIH-specific disclosure requirements will be released Aug. 23; disclosure information will need to be completed and submitted shortly after that date.

Also, NIH now requires that investigators and other personnel complete training before submitting new proposals or start any new awards, including noncompetitive renewal awards.

Two training options, either of which can be completed in less than 30 minutes, are available:

CITI training (preferred) -- All three parts of the training module must be completed. (Note: The online disclosure process mentioned in the training has been submitted to the Faculty Senate for approval, and if approved, will be posted Aug. 23 with the updated OP; hard copy disclosure forms will continue to be available.)
