Commercial Development Grant Program Open to TTU System Researchers
The Texas Tech University System Office of Technology Commercialization
implemented a Commercial Development Grant Program in 2011 to enhance the commercialization of System technologies by providing early stage technology grants to help fund the development of licensable intellectual property. The program is designed to help bridge the gap between scientific discovery and commercial invention by providing researchers with the early stage funding that is needed to attract commercial interest to university technologies. Over the past two years, we have completed four rounds of funding and awarded commercial development grants to 14 university researchers. So far, these grants have led to six new license agreements and helped to create two new start-up companies.
- Primary Investigators seeking grants must have an active technology disclosure on file with the Office of Technology Commercialization to qualify for a grant.
- Grants may be used for the purchase of supplies and equipment, non-faculty personnel costs, the preparation of marketing materials / studies, or patent prosecution.
- The maximum grant allowed under this program is $50,000.
- Proposals are evaluated based on their commercial market potential, patentability, and the development stage of the technology.
for the fifth round of funding are now being accepted. Proposals for this round of funding will close at 5 p.m. on January 4, 2013 and awards will be announced by February 1, 2013.
Non-confidential proposals are limited to the attached three page proposal. The proposal should provide a clear understanding of how the funds will be used to further develop the technology for commercial market acceptance. A maximum of five pages of additional information explaining the technology and its commercial applications may also be attached.
