ORS Losing a Staff Member

February 18, 2014

It is with mixed feelings that ORS announces the departure of Heather L. Thomas, senior analyst in Pre-award Services–a feeling of sadness to see her go and yet happiness to see her extending her career boundaries. Heather came to us as a student assistant in 2007 and then joined our team in 2011 shortly after graduating. She has been a valuable member of our team. Most of us who have worked with Heather have found her to be a very conscientious, professional and hard-working young woman. Her last day will be Fri., Feb. 28, 2014.

We are proud of Heather and appreciate her dedication and hard work during her tenure here. Her departure, however, will cause the Pre-award Services team to be short-handed during one of the busiest times of the year. While her position has been posted, it will take time to interview, select, and train a replacement.

We would appreciate your assistance in helping us continue to maintain the level of service to which you are accustomed. We can only do this with your help. You can help in these ways:

  • Please give us as much advance notice as possible when you know you will be submitting a proposal. Giving us the name of the agency as well as the deadline will be very helpful as we plan our workload. [Note: Heather’s caseload has already been re-distributed. An updated Assignments by College list isposted on the ORS website.
  • Please send us a draft budget at least 10 days in advance of the deadline.
  • Please submit your finalized proposal NO LATER THAN 5 BUSINESS DAYS BEFORE THE DEADLINE. This will allow for time to properly review your proposal before submission. This is especially true for Grants.gov submissions. ORS cannot "guarantee" an error-free, on-time submission if proposals are not received within this timeframe.
  • Please be patient with us. We are working as hard and as fast as we can to give every proposal the attention it deserves.

We hope you will join us in congratulating Heather on this achievement.
