Kathleen Everett Harris
Senior Associate Vice President for Research
Kathleen Everett Harris is Senior Associate Vice President for Research in the Office of the Vice President for Research (VPR). In this position she assists the VPR and Tech Transfer with policy-making decisions concerning the research infrastructure of the university and directs the day-to-day operation of the Office of Research Services.
Harris is designated as the university official with the authority to sign off on proposals, contracts and agreements, obligating the university to honor commitments in same. She also is authorized to negotiate with entities entering into grants or contracts with TTU.
A native Tennessean, Dr. Harris earned a B.A. from Carson-Newman College, a master’s degree in English from Eastern Kentucky University and a doctorate in higher education from the University of Kentucky. She began her career in research administration at the University of Kentucky Research Foundation and subsequently served as associate director of research development at the University of Houston. After four years as assistant director of affirmative action at Texas Tech, she joined ORS as assistant director in 1987. Dr. Harris is the university’s administrative representative to the Federal Demonstration Project and is active in several professional organizations, including the National Council of University Research Administrators, the Society of Research Administrators and the Intermountain University Research Administrators.
