Research Enrichment Fund
The Office of the Vice President for Research is prepared to allocate $1 million dollars in grant support to stimulate individual investigator research efforts at Texas Tech University. The funds will be awarded on a competitive basis. Proposals will be judged by the Texas Tech University Research Committee on the basis of scholarly and/or creative merit, the potential for completion for any ongoing project, and/or attracting further support.
This competition is open to TTU tenured and tenure-track faculty members in all academic disciplines. A researcher can be a principal investigator (PI) on no more than one proposal and in no more than one review area. A researcher can be a co-PI on no more than one proposal and in no more than one review area. The review areas are noted below, with links to reviewer rubrics specific to each area:
- Arts and Humanities
- Biological Sciences and Agriculture
- Physical Sciences, Mathematics and Engineering
- Social Science, Business, Law, and Education
Reviewers (Research Committee members) within each area represent several of the disciplines of that area.
In the interest of fostering creativity and the publication and/or presentation of research, there are no specific guidelines governing the topics eligible for consideration or the scope of the project. Proposals may request funding for pilot projects, bridging support, exceptional opportunities, and so forth. Proposals must lead to the creation of original work of significance beyond our campus and within a professional research or creative discipline. Although this initiative focuses on the individual researcher, multi-investigator or interdisciplinary proposals will be considered.
To enable campus-wide participation in this initiative, the maximum amount requested may not exceed $35,000. The funds may be used for any expenditure related to research or creative activities. Allowable expenditures include equipment, salaries, and travel. Expenditures must meet State of Texas and Texas Tech University guidelines for state-restricted funding. This funding will become available in September 2008 and must be fully expended or encumbered no later than July 21, 2009. The Committee reserves the option of revising a proposed budget if there is unconvincing justification.
