Texas Tech University is currently seeking two world-class researchers to join their wind energy research team. Texas Tech is committed to becoming one of the nation's leaders in finding solutions to the world's energy challenges. We are seeking innovative and creative faculty who will thrive by working in teams and addressing key issues in the development of sustainable wind energy systems for the nation.

The two faculty appointments will be at full professor rank, either in the Whitacre College of Engineering or in the College of Arts and Sciences, depending upon the individual's discipline.

Each selected individual also will have an appointment to the National Wind Resource Center (NWRC), a Texas Tech-established not-for-profit 501(c)(3) interdisciplinary research center focused on establishing national partnerships between universities, the national labs, the U.S. Department of Energy, and industry promoting research, innovation and collaboration in the wind energy sector. As an affiliate of the NWRC, the individuals will coordinate closely with the TTU Wind Science and Engineering Research Center and the Texas Wind Energy Institute at Texas Tech.

The holders of the full professor positions will be expected to join a collaborative, interdisciplinary community of scholars at Texas Tech dedicated to building a world-class program in wind energy research. Successful candidates will have a strong record of intellectual property development and commercialization.

Candidates for the positions are expected to have national and international reputations in renewable energy, particularly in the fields of energy storage, wind power grid integration, turbine performance or aerodynamics based on research publications, sponsored research and intellectual property. In addition, a record of team building, strategic partnering and mentoring of associates and graduate and undergraduate students is necessary. Successful candidates for the positions will be expected to bring their own research activities and/or established teams to Texas Tech University and to expand collaborative efforts in wind energy research at Texas Tech, thereby building a world-class research program.

Background: Texas Tech University, recently designated as an emerging research university by the state of Texas and therefore eligible for significant state investment in research, is on its way to becoming a state-designated, national research university in 2012. Its 2010 strategic plan charts a course for Texas Tech becoming a great public research university by 2020. The university has characteristics of a Carnegie-classified doctoral granting university with very high research productivity and is ranked by both the National Science Foundation and the Center for Measuring University Performance amongst the top 150 research universities in the country with total research expenditures exceeding $125M, an endowment worth $430M, total Ph.D.s graduated well over 200, with undergraduate and graduate enrollments of 26,000 and 5,000, respectively, and with faculty who are increasingly being recognized for their scholarship by NSF, the Welch Foundation and others. It is expected that Texas Tech will at least double the size of its research activity by 2020. TTU is presently actively engaged in strategic and cluster hiring to add capacity in critical areas tied to its strategic research themes (see http://www.ttu.edu/stratplan/docs/Making-It-Possible-Strategic-Plan-2010-Texas-Tech-9-21-10pdf.pdf and http://www.ttu.edu/stratplan/docs/StratPlanResearch0410.pdf ).

Process: Screening will begin upon the receipt of applications and will continue until the positions are filled.
