Department of Defense Releases Solicitation for Vannevar Bush Faculty Fellowship
On June 15, the Department of Defense (DOD) released the fiscal year (FY) 2018 Vannevar Bush Faculty Fellowship (VBFF) funding opportunity. The VBFF program is intended to attract and engage the best and brightest in academia to conduct a range of basic research in areas of interest to DOD. DOD is particularly interested in ambitious “blue sky” research that will lead to revolutionary discoveries, new fields of research, or disruption of existing theories. The program is overseen by the Basic Research Office within the Office of Assistant Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering (ASD (R&E)), and is managed by the Office of Naval Research (ONR), who released the solicitation. TTUHSC El Paso and the Mike Loya Center for Innovation and Commerce, in partnership with the Southwest I-Corps Node, is offering a regional NSF I-Corps program to develop the commercial value of academic research and innovation. The program introduces teams to the lean launchpad approach, which helps teams assess the potential value of their innovation and quickly and effectively validate their commercialization strategy. Teams completing the regional program will be eligible to apply for the national NSF I-Corps program and a $50,000 I-Corps team grant. Texas Tech Museum Collection Featured in Art Print Journal
An article by Peter Briggs, the Helen DeVitt Jones curator of art at the museum, is featured in the July-August 2017 issue of Art in Print, The Global Journal of Prints and Ideas. His article, "Miles from Nowhere: Collecting Contemporary American Prints in the Margins," focuses on the museum's success in building a major art collection in a facility located outside a major metropolitan area.
