Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee
Charge:
The IACUC serves as the review body for animals used by Texas Tech University (TTU) faculty, staff and students. TTU Policy requires that the use of all live vertebrate animals for research, instruction, demonstration, production, or maintenance purposes by TTU faculty, whether the animals are located in facilities at TTU or elsewhere, be approved by the IACUC in advance of their usage. Membership:
- One representative from Environmental Health & Safety
- One representative from Animal Care Services
- One member of the Lubbock community
- One non-science staff member from Texas Tech University
- Six faculty members from Texas Tech University, one of which must be a scientist that uses animals and two of which must be Animal Scientists
- One Veterinarian
Appointment:
Members of the committee will be appointed by the Institutional Official. (The position Institutional Official is defined by 9 CFR 1.1 as the individual who is authorized to legally commit on behalf of the university that the requirements of 9 CFR parts 1,2, and 3 will be met.) Each member of the committee will serve a one-year term and can serve multiple terms. Membership terms are September 1 – August 31.
Operating Procedures:
The committee develops and reviews all operating procedures relating to animal care and use at Texas Tech University. Refer to the IACUC website for the list of approved standard operating procedures.
Chairperson:
The chairperson of the Committee shall be appointed by the Institutional Official and will serve the same term as other members. The chair can reappointed for multiple terms.
Meeting Times:
Meetings convene each month. Contact the IACUC Coordinator for meeting times and for assistance with any animal use on campus.
