Faculty Distinguished Research Award

Associate Vice President for Research
Nominations due (to Linda True) by 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 20, 2007.
Each year the Texas Tech Association of Parents presents the Barnie E. Rushing, Jr. Faculty Distinguished Research Award. The purpose of this award, which provides a $1,500 honorarium, is to recognize outstanding research or scholarly activity by a member of the Texas Tech faculty and to encourage high quality research and publication by the faculty of the University. This announcement is a request for nominations for this award.
Each college is requested to solicit nominations for the award from its faculty and to select from those nominations one name to be submitted to this office as the college’s nominee for the University award. The College of Arts and Sciences may submit two nominations: one from the area of natural sciences and mathematics, and one from the area of humanities and social sciences. Nominees must hold the rank of assistant professor or above, and their research contributions should be of such quality that their significance has been or likely will be recognized nationally by peers in the nominee’s own discipline. For the purpose of this award, achievements in the arts, such as paintings and musical compositions, will be considered along with more traditional research or intellectual property development.
Each college may use whatever procedure it deems most appropriate to select its nominee, but it is suggested that a committee comprised of active researchers in the college be formed to screen the nominations and make the selection.
Continuing a practice begun several years ago, the Texas Tech Association of Parents screening committee will automatically consider, together with this year’s nominees, the top runner-up from last year’s selection for this year’s Research Award. The college of the prior year runner-up should submit an updated vita and other supporting materials for the current year selection process. Complete instructions are outlined in a memorandum sent to the deans dated September 19, 2007.
College nominations are due to Linda True in the Office of the Vice President for Research by 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 20, 2007 (103 Holden Hall, 742-3905). Please provide all information detailed in the OP32.24 checklist. In addition to the 20 pages of supporting materials, you are requested to include a description of the nominee suitable for the President to read at the spring faculty awards convocation. This description should be approximately 100 words in length and should be emailed to linda.true@ttu.edu. A sample description is found at:
