PURNENDU DASGUPTA BECOMES ONLY SECOND PERSON TO RECEIVE HONOR TWICE IN LIFETIME

Texas Tech researcher Purnendu K. Dasgupta, Ph.D., Horn professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, has been selected as the recipient for the 2005 Ion Chromatography Outstanding Achievement Award. Professor Dasgupta will follow Hamish Small in becoming only the second person to have received this honor twice in a lifetime.

Dasgupta was recognized for his scientific contributions to the field of ion chromatography through outstanding and groundbreaking research. His research in ionic analysis focuses on detecting, identifying and quantifying ions in the gas phase and in solution. A significant part of his research has involved miniaturization of the analytical equipment.

In 20 years at Texas Tech, Professor Dasgupta has established himself as a leading researcher in analytic chemistry. Other than ion chromatography, his research interests include fluid flow in thin films, atmospheric chemistry, air pollution toxicology and microscale analytical systems. In addition to his collaborations within the university, Dasgupta has worked with more than 25 research groups throughout the world.
