After growing up across Texas, Sydney settled in Waco in 2002. She attended Baylor University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Child and Family Studies in 2008. Following graduation, Sydney taught 2nd grade and Kindergarten in the Waco area. After three years of teaching at the elementary level, Sydney pursued a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology at Tarleton State University. While completing her graduate coursework, Sydney worked as a Graduate Student Advisor. Working as an advisor, Sydney realized she wanted to continue working with non-traditional students in their pursuit of higher education. As the Texas Tech Program Manager in Waco, she is involved in advising, recruiting, retention, new student orientation, and program development. In her free time, Sydney enjoys spending time with her husband and family, remodeling her home, and working on her land.
Sydney sees advising as a partnership that is highly individualized for each student. She understands that in McLennan County, students are typically juggling school with jobs, families, and other responsibilities. With each unique situation in mind, Sydney helps students understand the relationship between interests, coursework and future goals by providing a respectful, supportive, and genuine office environment. Sydney utilizes skills learned in her master's degree such as career counseling, empathy, and open-ended questions to make the most out of each advising session and student correspondence. She hopes to increase the opportunities available, degree completion, and student success within higher education in McLennan County.
