Texas Tech University

Archduke Georg von Habsburg-Lothringen

October 16, 2017

His Imperial and Royal Highness Archduke Georg von Habsburg-Lothringen of Austria and Hungary visited Texas Tech University on October 15-16, 2017. The Archduke honored Texas Tech with his presence at the International Cultural Center on Monday, where he delivered a talk entitled "The European Union's Greatest Challenges to Survive Brexit." Earlier that same day, His Royal Highness took part in an interview with Institute Director, Dr. Stephen Balch.

As part of the commemoration of the 150th anniversary of Emperor Maximilian's death, the Hodge-Martin-Chatfield Museum of Texas commissioned the production of medals bearing the likeness of the Emperor, suspended from a red-green-white ribbon in the Habsburg triangular style.  Several specially numbered medals in sterling silver were struck for presentation to members of the Imperial Family. One such medal was presented to the Archduke after his talk at the ICC, which he graciously received. Seen in the photos below are Archduke Georg von Habsburg-Lothringen, Ambassador Tibor Nagy of Texas Tech, Robert Jones of the Hodge-Martin-Chatfield Museum, and his daughter who presented the medal, Mary Page Jones.
