Professor of Atmospheric Science, Department of Geosciences, Texas Tech University
Contact Information:Email: john.schroeder@ttu.edu Telephone: 806-842-3476 Mail: NWI, Box 41023, TTU, Lubbock, Texas 79410-1023 Fax: 806.742.3446 Education:Specialties:General: Managing technical and administrative staffs, rallying large multidisciplinary teams, organizing diverse technical projects, planning and executing strategic investments in research infrastructure, administering multi-million dollar budgets, and fulfilling reporting requirements for grants/contracts. Technical: Wind flow characterization, wind hazards, turbine inflow/wake flow, atmospheric observing technologies, wind engineering, wind power meteorology, and weather forecasting. Synergistic Activities:Dr. Schroeder has been in a leadership position at Texas Tech’s multidisciplinary Wind Science and Engineering Research Center since 2010 with his main research focus being wind science. Dr. Schroeder has successfully developed and managed multiple atmospheric observing platforms, including several research radars, the West Texas Mesonet, and various portable weather observing stations. These platforms have made unique observations from the lower atmosphere, which have directly benefitted the atmospheric science and engineering communities. He is currently serving on the Board of Directors for the American Association of Wind Engineering, and was recently awarded the 2012 International Association for Wind Engineering Junior Award for his many contributions to the measurements and characterization of extreme wind events. Dr. Schroeder's latest research endeavors include the use of research-grade radar measurements to document the modulated flow fields within wind farms, including turbine wakes. Academic Links:
