Wednesday, 16 April : 6 pm HS 169 There will be a panel on rape/assault prevention for women, and reflects concern about the number of assaults recently at bars in Lubbock.

16 April: First meeting of the Women in Science Club, 11:30-1:00, DeVitt Jones Sculpture Court at the Museum of Texas Tech University. Friday, 18 April: As part of a class project, students in Dr. Leila DeVriese’s Global Feminisms course (WS4399) have successfully launched a chapter of Amnesty International at Texas Tech. The chapter, which will be run as a student organization, is a re-birthin West Texas, and will hold its inaugural event on Friday April 18th in the Human Sciences Bldg., Rm. 169 from 6 p.m. -7:30 p.m. The event is open to the public and will include the screening of the award-winning documentary film: 10 Questions for the Dalai Lama. The event will also offer an opportunity for interested students to join the TTU Amnesty International chapter and learn more about upcoming events and campaigns on campus. Refreshments will be provided.

October 11: National Coming Out Day, TTU Free Speech Zone, 11AM-2PM. University Student Housing and the TTU Gay-Straight Alliance sponsor a Ribbon demo to show support. 

October 11: Shirley  Campbell, a feminist activist with United Nations, NGO, and other international experience in the Caribbean and Latin America will give a talk On “Black Women in Latin America: Situation, Contributions, and Identity”, 5PM., College of Education, Room 350.  Presented by the Latino)a)/Hispanic Faculty and Staff Association, with support from the Black Faculty Staff Association, the College
of Education, the Honors College Speakers Series, and the Women’s Studies Program. 

October 12: Opening, “Sabor Hispano 2007: Tradiciones Y Memorias de Nuestros Paises,” the second annual juried art exhibit and poetry reading event.  Welcoming  address,  Shirley Campbell, 5:30 PM. in the Allen Theatre, Student Union  Building.  Reception 7-9PM at the TTU Southwest Collections Building, 15th and Detroit.  Sponsored by the Latino(a)/Hispanic  Faculty and Staff Association.

October 16: “National Day of Silence.”  Opportunity for allies and supporters to “take a vow of silence” in recognition of those silenced every day because of their sexual identity; ribbons distributed throughout the residence halls all week.  Sponsored by University Student Housing.

October 19: World AIDS Day: AIDS quilt squares available for signing at Residence Hall Offices across campus. Sponsored by University Student Housing.
