V-Day Lubbock Coalition

vday

V-Day Lubbock (Facebook link) is a Texas Tech Univesity Student Organization and a local branch of the national V-Day organization. The group promotes an awareness campaign to end violence against women & girls.

Over the years they have hosted V-Day events such as the Vagina Monologues, the play “A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant and A Prayer” as well as other community based fundraisering events to benefit Women’s Protective Services and the Victim’s Voice. They have also hosted V-Men, in which men in our community come together to discuss issues of masculinity and violence. This session was taped and sent to the national V-Day organization in order for them to write a new play for men based on these videos. They also have held clothing drives for the Sexaul Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) program for their patients.

Additionally their art auction raised money to help build the City of Joy in the Republic of Congo, which is a safe house for victims of rape and girls who are fleeing from undergoing female genital mutilation in their home villages.

V-Day is a global movement to end violence against women and girls that raises funds and awareness through benefit productions of Playwright/Founder Eve Ensler's award winning play the Vagina Monologues and other artistic works. Read more....
