Current Scholarship Giving to Women's Studies

scholarshipsThe Women's Studies Program offers a variety of undergraduate scholarships and one graduate scholarship of different amounts. In order for a student to receive a scholarship from the Women's Studies Program, the student is required to complete a scholarship application.

Each scholarship has a check list of minimum qualifications that student's should follow when completing the application. Each scholarship will list the specific GPA requirement, written essay structure, two letters of recommendation and a brief written summary of extracurricular activities such as honors, achievements, memberships, scholastic awards and professional accomplishments. These written materials are to accompany the application form.

Type of Scholarships

  • Florence Brown En Avant Club Scholarship
    The Florence Brown En Avant Club Scholarship is established by Preston F. Gott in memory of the scholarship given to Edna Maynard Gott when she was a student at the University of Texas in the 1940's. Dr. Gott later became the first woman awarded tenure in the TTU Department of Economics. The scholarship is designated to be awarded to a full time, undergraduate female student who has a record showing academic excellence and interest in the pursuit of knowledge concerning women's issues. The scholarship award is $500 for one year and may be awarded repeatedly for a total of four years. The scholarship may be carried into graduate work if renewed.   • Gwen Sorell Scholarship Endowment
    The Gwen Sorell Scholarship Endowment is established in honor of the late Dr. Gwen Sorell in recognition of her tireless work on behalf of the Women’s Studies Program. The scholarship is designated to be awarded to a full time, undergraduate female student who began pursuing her undergraduate degree after the age of 25. The scholarship award is $500 for one year.   • Rae Nell Griggs Scholarship Endowment
    The Rae Nell Griggs Scholarship Endowment is established by the generosity of the Lubbock Area Lights Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association. The scholarship is designated to be awarded to a full time, undergraduate or graduate student. Student must be enrolled in a class associated with the Women’s Studies Program at Texas Tech University, or a course pertaining to women’s and gender studies (as deemed by the Women’s Studies Program Director.) Upon receipt of the award, student is required to attend at least one meeting of the Lubbock Area Lights-American Business Women’s Association for gift recognition. The scholarship award is $250 for one semester (Fall or Spring) and may be awarded repeatedly at the discretion of the Director of Women’s Studies. A new application must be filed each year.
