Agricultural & Applied Economics Degree

The Agricultural and Applied Economics degree prepares students to manage food companies, farms, ranches, banks, warehouses, insurance agencies, real estate agencies, and many other businesses. Graduates play a role as decision-makers in businesses that supply agricultural inputs, credit, services, and process/distribute agricultural products to final consumers. Public and private institutions that manage natural resources (such as petroleum, wind, and water) are a recently growing employer base for our students. An increasing number of our graduates pursue advanced studies in economics, agricultural economics, business administration, and law.

The degree program has 11 hours of free elective courses (chosen from any other courses not used elsewhere in the degree program). Students transferring into the department often choose the Agricultural and Applied Economics degree to receive maximum credit for courses taken at other institutions.

The Agricultural and Applied Economics degree program offers flexibility in credit-hour requirements such that a student has the opportunity to gain a minor (for non-majors) in a field or discipline outside the Department. In many cases, the student can gain the minor within the 120-hour requirement of the major degree program - without the addition of extra coursework. Many students gain minors in Business, Personal Financial Planning, Animal Science, and Agronomy. Further, the interested student can obtain double-minors in Business and another agricultural field with the modest addition of one extra course.
