Beikmann, Garcia receive President's Quality Service Award
Two staff members from Texas Tech's Department of Plant and Soil Science were honored Monday (Apr. 12) with President's Quality Service Awards, officials announced today. The awards, established in 1997, recognized Angela Beikmann and Sylvia Garcia for their excellent customer service in the performance of their jobs.
"Our staff members are the heart of our university and are often the first impression people have of Texas Tech," said Guy Bailey, president of Texas Tech. "I'm delighted we could recognize a few of our superb staff members for their outstanding work."
Winners were nominated for the awards and selected by a committee. Nominees are judged on a number of criteria based on outstanding customer service.
"This is the second year in a row with two PSS recipients of Quality Service Awards, and this year we were one of only two academic departments on campus with QSA recipients," said Tom Thompson, chairman of Tech's plant and soil science department. "This is more evidence of the excellent people we have."
Separately, Dan Burns, associate director of the United Spirit Arena, received the Chancellor's Award for Excellence and a $1,500 check. Twenty-one individuals received the President's Quality Service Award and a $500 check. Team awards were given to Tech's audit services, enrollment management and the honors college.
