Texas Tech regents promote three CASNR faculty members to professor
The Texas Tech University System Board of Regents today (May 13) approved the academic advancement of three leading College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources faculty members to full professor. The new promotions for Christopher Taylor, Cynthia McKenney and Mark Wallace will go into effect on Sept. 1.
Taylor, an associate professor specializing in aquatic ecology in Tech's Department of Natural Resources Management, has a research focus on factors that influence the distribution and abundance of organisms at local, regional and biogeographic scales. In the past he has examined effects of modified flow regimes and habitat fragmentation on stream fishes, as well as endangered species conservation and ecology, and the roles of colonization and extinction in structuring stream fish. His doctorate is from the University of Oklahoma.
McKenney, an associate professor of ornamental horticulture in Tech's Department of Plant and Soil Science, has a research focus on development and release of native plant cultivars included in the Raider Wildflower Collection, as well as utilization of dairy compost in the urban landscape. She received a bachelor's and master's degrees in horticulture from Texas Tech. Her doctorate in higher education administration is from Texas Tech. She has served on the university faculty since 1984.
Wallace, an associate professor specializing in wildlife and habitat management in Tech's Department of Natural Resources Management, has a research focus on desert mule deer fawn survival in Arizona, land use effects on turkey populations in Texas and Kansas, and prairie chicken ecology in the Texas panhandle. He notes that wildlife in the rural-urban areas provides excellent opportunities to study vertebrate populations in fragmented habitats. His urban wildlife research lab studies wildlife behavior and habitat use in landscapes dominated by human. His doctorate is from the University of Arizona.
