In Profile: Riley Branch takes reins as CASNR's new Ag Council President
For Riley Branch moving forward helps him keep the future of agriculture in focus. Texas Tech's newly minted Ag Council President believes there are a lot of people in this world that need dedicated individuals like him.
"The future was yesterday; the world depends on us keeping up," said the Aspermont native and former national FFA officer. "This is an exciting time to be involved in agriculture. We have so many new and difficult challenges in front of us; yet, we have so many new and exciting opportunities as well."
Moving Forward. Always moving forward and striving for more defines Branch. "Success isn't about the result," he said. "Success is the process of getting there. If I'm someone who gave it my all and, more importantly, learned something, then I know that it was a successful venture for me."
Branch is no stranger to the agricultural industry. Raised on his family's cattle ranch in Aspermont, he decided to pursue the field when he realized the significance of agriculturalists and the impact they can have. He began his studies at Texas Tech in the only field that would allow him to get what he wanted out of life. "I knew that a career in agriculture was the place for me," he said.
Family Tradition. Branch followed a family tradition in coming to Texas Tech. Both his father, Robert, and sister, Ashley, were Red Raiders. "I guess coming to Tech was always in the back of my mind," he said. "But when I found the agricultural leadership program here at Tech and talked to the professors here, I knew this was the clear choice for me."
Branch, who served as Ag Council vice president from 2008-2009, was elected as the
new president in April. CASNR's Ag Council members include:
