Texas Tech taps Iceland fisheries expert for Cooperative Fish & Wildlife post
A research scientist from the University of Iceland's Institute of Biology has joined the Texas Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Unit at Texas Tech, university officials announced today (Aug. 13). The unit is a partnership between Texas Tech, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, U.S. Geological Survey, Wildlife Management Institute and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
Timothy Grabowski , who comes on board Sept. 27, will serve as assistant unit leader of fisheries and will fill a joint role as assistant professor in Tech's Department of Natural Resources Management. He previously worked as a postdoctoral research associate at the Georgia Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit, a lecturer at the University of Georgia and a postdoctoral research scientist and lecturer at the University of Iceland.
Grabowski received bachelor's degrees in marine biology and marine fisheries, and a master's degree in wildlife and fisheries sciences from Texas A&M University. His doctorate in zoology is from Clemson University.
Tech officials explained that the Texas Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Unit produces research and educational activities related to natural resource management and conservation. Specific fields of interest include:" Fisheries and wildlife management" Aquatic and wildlife ecology" Community ecology" Ecophysiology" Ecotoxicology" Reproductive biology & fish culture
"Filling this position has already had a positive impact on our efforts to establish collaborative relationships with partner agencies as we have begun working with Dr. Grabowski to develop research proposals in areas of interest for fisheries management," said Reynaldo Patino, the unit's director.
