CASNR Advisory Board member receives Honorary American FFA Degree
Citing his exceptional service to agriculture and agricultural education, officials with the 83rd National FFA Convention in Indianapolis announced today that Texas Tech University grad Dan Taylor has been selected to receive an Honorary American FFA Degree.
The former agriculture teacher and cotton ginner from Ropesville is a longtime supporter of Texas Tech, particularly the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. Taylor is a graduate of the college's agricultural education program and currently sits on CASNR's advisory board.
Officials note that the FFA award recognizes individuals from across the nation for their service and contributions to agriculture education and future agriculturists. Each of the recipients will take home a certificate and a medal.
Taylor farms in Lubbock and Terry counties, in addition to owning several other agricultural properties in Hockley, Lynn, Castro, Lamb, Hill and Denton counties. From 1964 to 1974 he was an agricultural science teacher at Lubbock-Cooper, and from 1975 to2009 he was CEO and owner of Buster's Gin.
He received his bachelor's degree in agricultural education in 1964 and a master of education in 1968 from Texas Tech.
The national FFA convention, which runs from Oct. 20-23, brings together nearly 55,000 FFA members and guests from across the country. Members participate in general sessions, competitive events, educational tours, leadership workshops, a career show and expo, volunteer activities and much more. It is one of the largest annual student conventions in the country, officials claim.
