Homecoming Tradition: Fan favorite breakfast fest gets alumni into the spirit
Texas Tech's College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources alumni will get a warm welcome Nov. 6 as the graduates, young and old, celebrate the annual Homecoming Breakfast festivities at the livestock arena behind the Animal and Food Sciences Building on the corner of Indiana and Main in Lubbock.
The breakfast, which gets underway at 8 a.m., is free of charge, but there will be an opportunity to contribute donations to the Marvin J. Cepica Student Ag Council Scholarship and the General CASNR Scholarship Fund.
Texas Tech officials stress that parking will be different this year. The plan is to park to the west of the Livestock Arena in the C-14 parking lot and place a postcard from the alumni office on the dash of your car. They suggest taking the Texas Tech parkway to enter from the west side of the parking lot. Signs will be displayed to direct individuals, and a golf cart will provide shuttle rides for those needing assistance.
Immediately following breakfast, the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics will have an open house after the breakfast in the Agricultural Sciences Building in Room 319. In addition, there will be an alumni and student meat judging contest following the breakfast in the Gordon W. Davis Meat Lab.
At 10 a.m. the Ag Education and Communications Alumni Association's annual meeting will be held at the Animal Science Building in the first floor conference room from 10 a.m. to noon. Meanwhile, the Homecoming Parade will begin at the First Baptist Church and will end at the intersection of 18th and Indiana on the Tech campus.
At noon the meat science program will be hosting a tailgating luncheon (exact time pending the football game schedule) in the Animal and Food Sciences Building and parking lot. All Animal and Food Sciences alumni and students are invited to the event. Later in the day Texas Tech will face the University of Missouri for homecoming. Officials suggest checking the game time at www.texastech.com. For information regarding football game tickets contact the athletic ticket office at (888) GO-BIG12 or (806) 742-4412.
CASNR officials note that there will be several activities on tap the day before the breakfast. On Friday (Nov. 5) at 9 a.m. the Department of Landscape Architecture will have an alumni-student workshop for departmental alumni and current students in the Pavilion. At 5:30 p.m. the Animal and Food Sciences Hall of Fame and Meat Science Recognition Banquet will be held in the United Spirit Arena in the City Bank Room.
