Tech women's rodeo team rides to second place finish at West Texas A&M
Behind the strong performance of Taylor Langdon in the barrel racing events, Texas Tech's women's rodeo team rode to a second place finish over the weekend at the West Texas A&M University Rodeo in Canyon. Held at the Outfit Arena, the meeting was the Red Raiders fourth Southwest Region National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association event of the season.
More than 500 contestants representing college rodeo teams from across the Southwest region competed in variety events at West Texas A&M, said host event officials. Men's events included bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, bull riding, calf roping, team roping and steer wrestling. Events in the women's competition were roping, goat tying and barrel racing.
In barrel racing Langdon, a sophomore from Aubrey, finished second in the overall competition. The animal and food science major continues to lead the Southwest Region National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association in barrel racing rankings. Haley Nelson of Canyon and Teal Hampton, a senior human sciences major from Ft. Myers, Fla., also placed in barrel racing.
In the goat tying competition, Bailey Guthrie, an animal science major from Rigby, Idaho, recorded the fastest time of the year at 7.3 seconds in go round one. She then tied for third in the finals with 9.6 seconds, putting her in second place for the overall event. Guthrie leads the Southwest regional standings in goat tying.
In the men's competition, senior Luke Creasy, an English major from Alberta, Canada, placed in bareback riding. Clay Creasy, a senior animal and food sciences major from Alberta, Canada, placed in saddle bronc riding. Senior Adam Sawyer of Bassett, Neb., placed in calf roping
