By: Steeley Smith
Name: Kirby Nixon; Major: Animal Science; Classification: Junior; Organization: Block & Bridle; Hometown: Floydada; Month: April
Kirby Nixon, a junior animal science major from Floydada, has been named Texas Tech's College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources April Aggie of the Month.
"I'm grateful to receive this award, " Nixon said. "It shows the support my peers
have for not only me, but Block and Bridle as well."
Nixon's involvement in Ag Council has shown him how all different organizations can come together to achieve the common goal of incorporating everyone in CASNR.
Nixon said his passion for agriculture began with him growing up on his family's farming and ranching operation. After visiting campus for the first time, Nixon said he knew CASNR would help him grow in his passion.
"Texas Tech truly was the choice for me and always has been. When I visited campus and was treated like an actual person and not just a student, I knew this was the place to go," Nixon said.
Nixon said his favorite aspect of CASNR was how close all of the students, faculty, and staff are. As well as, how much the faculty and staff devote their time to ensure the success of every student.
After graduation, Nixon said he intends to return home to carry on his family's operation. While there, he said he plans on continuing to grow cotton and pumpkins, but also work on diversifying their operation by building a seed stock, stocker, and feeder calf operation.
