PSS’s Plowman earns CFD certification, invite to national AIFD floral group

Russ Plowman, an instructor of horticulture with Texas Tech University's Department of Plant and Soil Science, has been recognized by the American Institute of Floral Designers as a recipient of its Certified Floral Designer designation, officials with Tech's Department of Plant and Soil Science announced today (Aug. 6).
Plowman was granted the designation after successfully completing the Professional Floral Design Evaluation last month immediately prior to AIFD's National Symposium in Washington, D.C. The meeting is one of the floral industry's leading design and education events.
An AFID spokesperson explained the CFD recognition is granted only after a floral designer has demonstrated an understanding of the concepts of design through education and by subjecting their floral design work to a peer evaluation conducted by an international panel of design experts.
In addition to the CFD designation, Plowman's designs and evaluation marks were considered so good that he was extended an invitation to become an AIFD Accredited Member. He will be inducted during ceremonies as part of AIFD's National Symposium next summer in Las Vegas.
"The CFD and AIFD professional designations salute a floral designer for his or her artistry and provides consumers with a tool to use for selecting quality professional work," Sandy Schroeck, chairperson of AIFD's Membership Committee.
Established in 1965, AIFD is one of the floral industry's leading non-profit organization dedicated to establishing, maintaining and recognizing the highest standard of professional floral design. Its members are often involved in presenting educational design programs and in designing flowers for events worldwide.
