CASNR students set to attend national AFA Leaders Conference in Missouri

Twenty-six undergraduate students from Texas Tech University's College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resource are set to attend the Agriculture Future of America's Leadership Conference from Nov. 11-14 in Kansas City, Missouri.
“This conference is the bridge between college and career for undergraduate students studying food and agriculture,” said Sandra Addo, CASNR's Administrator for Diversity & Graduate Student Recruitment. The four-track program is designed to provide students with different personal and professional development opportunities based on where they are in their collegiate experience, she said.
CASNR students scheduled to attend the program are:
- Blaine Allen, a sophomore agricultural business & applied economics major from Lolita, Texas
- Denny Atchley, a sophomore agricultural economics major from Las Cruces, New Mexico
- Amelia Butler, a senior plant & soil science major from Honey Grove, Texas
- Madelon Clark, a senior agricultural communications major from Menard, Texas
- Deniz Colby, a first year agricultural education major from Chowchilla, California
- Lindsay Dube, a senior agricultural communications major from Thorndale, Texas
- Kylie Farmer, a junior agricultural communications major from Chowchilla, California
- Jackson Galvan, a first year plant breeding major from Weslaco, Texas
- Seth Gerhart, a sophomore plant & soil science major from Winters, Texas
- Morgan Gramling, a first year animal science major from Krum, Texas
- Austin Haynes, a junior agricultural economics major from Brownwood, Texas
- Alexes Healton, a junior agricultural communications major from Burkburnett, Texas
- Allie Herring, a first year agricultural communications major from Franklin, Texas
- Savannah Ivey, a senior animal science major from Stephenville, Texas
- Laura Jimenez, a junior animal science major from Austin, Texas
- Shayla Jones, a first year agricultural communications & marketing major from Meridian, Texas
- Jillian Kennedy, a junior agricultural economics major from Eastland, Texas
- Madyson Leita, a junior animal science major from Lubbock, Texas
- Macie Miller, a junior agricultural education major from Iowa Park, Texas
- Blake Mills, a first year agricultural economics major from Center Point, Texas
- Carson Nuckols, a first year plant and soil science major from Porterville, California
- Brendan Scott, a sophomore agricultural economics major from Lubbock, Texas
- Derrick Watts, a senior agronomy major from Lubbock, Texas
- Kennedy Wood, a sophomore animal science major from Levelland, Texas
- Austin Haynes, a senior agribusiness & applied economics major from Teague, Texas
- Cade Zacharias, a junior agricultural economics major from Oglesby, Texas
Addo, who also serves as President-Elect of the Texas Tech Staff Senate, is based in CASNR's Dr. Bill Bennett Student Success Center, is part of a group of professionals in the CASNR Dean's Office charged with recruiting and retaining the best students for the college. She is responsible for coordinating diversity recruitment of all students for CASNR through a targeted effort, as well as creating and distributing information and printed literature emphasizing CASNR diversity, its programs, centers and facilities.
The Dr. Bill Bennett Student Success Center is named for long-time member of the Department of Plant and Soil Science's emeritus faculty Bill Bennett. Bennett joined the Texas Tech faculty in 1968, and was a trailblazer in raising money for scholarships to increase recruitment of students, in addition to spearheading creation of the college's Ambassadors for Agriculture and Agri-Techsans programs.
