By: Norman Martin
Sandra Addo, the Program Manager for Diversity & Graduate Student Recruitment within Texas Tech's
Davis College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resource, is the new president of
the Texas Tech Staff Senate. The organization broadly focuses on contributing to the
welfare of its staff employees; serving as a liaison among staff, administration,
faculty, and students; and advising the administration in matters affecting the staff.
“I am beyond honored to begin serving as Staff Senate president and advocate on behalf
staff all over campus,” Addo said. “As Texas Tech advances on its 100th year in 2023,
it is also important to recognize the efforts of staff members before us and empower
current and future staff members to always to strive for honor.”
Addo, who is based in Davis College's Dr. Bill Bennett Student Success Center, is part of a group of professionals in the Davis College Dean's Office charged with recruiting and retaining the best students for the college, said Interim Dean Cindy Akers.
Addo is responsible for coordinating diversity recruitment of all students for Davis College through a targeted effort, as well as creating and distributing information and printed literature emphasizing Davis College diversity, its programs, centers and facilities. In addition, she aids in marketing and promoting Davis College graduate programs; developing an overall recruitment plan and participating in graduate recruitment activities.
Prior to joining the Davis College staff, Addo served as admissions counselor with Texas Tech's Office of Undergraduate Admissions and a drop-in tutor with Tech's Student Disabilities Services. The Wylie, Texas, native received her bachelor's degree in business administration and marketing, and her master's degree in strategic communication and innovation from Texas Tech.
The Dr. Bill Bennett Student Success Center is named for long-time member of the Department of Plant and Soil Science's emeritus faculty Bill Bennett. Bennett joined the Texas Tech faculty in 1968, and was a trailblazer in raising money for scholarships to increase recruitment of students, in addition to spearheading creation of the college's Ambassadors for Agriculture and Agri-Techsans programs.
