The student chapter of the American Fisheries Society–Texas at Texas Tech has been named the organization’s Most Active Student Subunit of the Year, a distinction recognizing sustained engagement in professional development, research presentation and statewide networking within the fisheries community.

The award was announced last month during the society’s 50th annual meeting in Galveston, where students from across Texas gathered to share research, discuss resource management challenges and connect with professionals working in aquatic sciences.

Faculty advisers and chapter leaders credited the recognition to consistent participation in conferences, outreach efforts and student-led research, as well as a strong culture of collaboration within the Department of Natural Resources Management.

“TTU AFS had great success at this meeting, motivating members to keep up the hard work they are all putting in to managing our natural resources,” said Hannah Adams, the chapter’s past president and a graduate research assistant with the U.S. Geological Survey Texas Cooperative Fish & Wildlife Research Unit in Lubbock.

Founded to support students pursuing careers in fisheries and aquatic resource management, the chapter has become a visible presence within the Texas American Fisheries Society, contributing to the professional pipeline that supports conservation and stewardship efforts across the state.
