The Texas Tech University Master of Science in Ranch Management Program is pleased to announce the start of the Ranchers’ Lecture Series, hosted by Executive Director of Ranch Management Clint Rusk.

The inaugural lecture will be delivered by Shannon Ferrell, J.D., from Oklahoma State University on May 20, 2026, with a noon lecture held at the National Ranching Heritage Center in Lubbock, Texas, and a second lecture by Ferrell to follow at the Plainview Country Club in Plainview, Texas, at 6 :00 PM.
Rusk said he is excited to bring the Ranchers’ Lecture Series to the area for both aspiring and experienced ranchers to gain valuable knowledge.
“Our goal is to make nationally recognized speakers available to West Texas Ranchers multiple times a year and within driving distance from their ranch,” he said. “Dr. Ferrell will present current information about ranching succession, which applies to ranchers, farmers and other business owners who are thinking about passing their business to the next generation.”
To kick off the series, Ferrell’s lectures will focus on preparation for ranching succession. He brings years of knowledge and experience, growing up on a cattle and wheat operation in western Oklahoma. His education includes both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in agricultural economics from Oklahoma State University, as well as a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from the Oklahoma City University School of Law.
Additionally, Rusk said he plans to host lectures throughout the year across the South Plains and Panhandle.
“If there are speakers you would like to hear from, please send us their name and we will do our best to bring them to West Texas,” he said.
