Top Scholars, Leaders Recognized at Davis College Awards Ceremony

Students, faculty, and staff across Texas Tech’s Davis College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources were honored for their year of achievement at the annual Ag Honors Banquet hosted by the Student Agricultural Council on March 27. The banquet featured outstanding students from across the college, student leaders in Davis College, and staff and faculty members who are making an impact on their students.

This year's Overall Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award goes to GraceAnn Streit, a senior animal science student from Lubbock, Texas. 

The Overall Outstanding Undergraduate Student award begins with each department selecting outstanding students in each academic major offered. Departments select their outstanding departmental student to interview for the college-wide Overall Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award. This year, Davis College is proud to give this award to GraceAnn Streit, a senior animal science student from Lubbock, Texas.

The outstanding students from the remaining departments were Colter Pohlman (Agricultural & Applied Economics), Makayla Miles (Agricultural Education & Communications), Josue Guerrero (Landscape Architecture), Caleb Weinette (Plant & Soil Science), and Alexander Haydeck (Natural Resources Management).

The outstanding student from each academic major were Colter Pohlman, Cash Campbell, Carson Griffith, Cash Martin, Makayla Miles, Ashlynn Messer, GraceAnn Streit, Josue Guerrero, Caleb Weinette, Alexander Haydeck, and Carson Fryer.

Students graduating with the highest academic achievement award (4.0 GPA) were:

  • Agricultural & Applied Economics: Devyn Gaff, Carson Griffith, Sierra Muir
  • Agricultural Education & Communications: Emorie Dornak, Garren Hamby, Cash Martin, Makayla Miles, Coleman Mitchell, Emma Roberts, Carley Smith, Emily Spiess
  • Animal & Food Science: Jack Habjan, Lexi Hunt, Olivia Lightfoot, Paige Lengemanger
  • Landscape Architecture: Kollier Miller
  • Plant & Soil Science: Whitney White

Awards are also presented to undergraduate and graduate students who are significant contributors to research efforts across the college. The winners of the 2026 Outstanding Research Awards are:

  • Undergraduate, Social Sciences – Colter Pohlman (Agricultural & Applied Economics)
  • Undergraduate, Natural Sciences – Seth Cope (Plant & Soil Science)
  • Graduate, Social Sciences – JP Bastos (Agricultural & Applied Economics)
  • Graduate, Natural Sciences – Elizabeth Neal (Animal & Food Science)

Ag Council ‘Matador of the Month’ Award Recipients were:

  • Makayla Miles representing the Matador Collegiate Farm Bureau
  • Gage Owen representing the Agri-Techsans
  • Jeremy Resindez representing the Matador Collegiate Farm Bureau
  • Wes Morris representing the Agri-Techsans
  • Issac Duhon representing Alpha Gamma Rho

The Club of the Semester award was awarded to Alpha Gamma Rho (fall) and the Agri-Techsans (spring) for their dedication and work throughout the year. Avery Frederick (MANNRS) and Allie Goodwin (Agronomy Club) were named outstanding Ag Council Representatives.  Brittyn LeCompte (fall) and Chloe Krause were named Outstanding Staff Members of the Semester. Professor Courtney Meyers (fall) and Professor Scott Burris (spring) were named Outstanding Faculty Members of the Semester.

Agri-Techsans awarded their ‘Outstanding New Agri-Techsan’ Award to Laynee Unterkircher and the ‘Outstanding Returning Agri-Techsan’ Award to Gage Owen. The members of the inaugural officer team for the 2025-2026 year were:

  • President – Kaylee Hopkins
  • Vice President – Sydny Jones
  • Secretary – Erika Vandermaarl
  • Reporter – Leddie Leech
  • Ag Council Rep – Braylee Brooks

Ambassadors for Agriculture awarded their ‘Outstanding New Ambassador for Agriculture’ Award to Makayla Pierce and the ‘Outstanding Returning Ambassador for Agriculture’ Award to Jordan Jones. The members of the 2025-2026 officer team were:

  • Vice President – Saylor Kvalheim
  • Secretary – Thea Willner
  • Treasurer – Brindle Harper
  • Communications & Member Outreach Coordinator – Julianna Sirmans
