Three students from Texas Techs Davis College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources will spend the summer in Washington, D.C., serving in competitive government internships that place them at the center of federal policymaking and public service.
The Washington internship program is part of Davis Colleges broader effort to prepare students for leadership roles in agriculture, public policy and government service, offering opportunities that extend beyond the classroom.
The internships offer students firsthand exposure to the operations of the federal government, including legislative affairs, public communication, constituent engagement and policy development. Participants will work in offices tied to agriculture and national governance while gaining professional experience in one of the nation's most influential political environments.
“Providing students with the opportunity to see the inner workings of government gives them a unique perspective on policy making and potential career paths” said Lowell Randel, Executive Director of the Agricultural Policy Advocacy Program at Davis College. “This is one of the most unique opportunities available to our students.”
This years Davis College Washington, D.C.-based summer interns include:
- Jack Davis, a senior agricultural and applied economics major from Spearman, Texas (USDA Office of Food Safety)
- Maddie Dean, a senior agricultural communications major from Vienna, Georgia (USDA Office of Communication)
- Madison Glass, a senior agricultural and applied economics / general business major from Alamogordo, New Mexico (U.S. House Committee on Appropriations)
During their time in Washington, the students will reside in the “Tech House,” a Texas Tech residence located just over a block from the U.S. Capitol. Scholarships provided through donor support help offset living expenses for participating students.
