Nate Imai

Nate Imai is an Assistant Professor whose research focuses on digital technology and design pedagogy. His current design work incorporates the Internet of Things (IoT) to activate public spaces through the intersection of publicly accessible data and materials. His current teaching work incorporates STEM teaching principles and Evidence-Based Instruction Practices (EBIPs) in undergraduate design studios and representation courses.

Nate received his B.A. in Architectural Studies from UCLA where he graduated with Distinction. He holds an M. Arch from Harvard University where he received the Alpha Rho Chi Medal. As a graduate student at Harvard he was a member of the student team that designed and built Horizon House, an 80-square-meter dwelling in Hokkaido, Japan. He is a recipient of the Studio Prize awarded by Architect magazine for a beginning design studio taught in 2017. His previous teaching experience includes the University of Tennessee, Woodbury University, and Harvard University, and his professional experience includes Michael Maltzan Architecture, Höweler + Yoon, Takenaka Corporation, Kevin Daly Architects, Atelier Hitoshi Abe, and Imai Keller Moore Architects.
