Biography

The (closest to the) correct pronunciation is Tay-uh Vert-larr. My hometown is Split, Croatia. I have earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin in May of 2014, with the areas of specialization in the Environmental, Water Resources Engineering, and Construction Engineering & Project Management.

My first research experience started under Dr. Danny Reible while working with Dr. Courtney Thomas as a part of the Graduates Link with Undergraduates in Engineering (GLUE) program, where I researched the mobility of polycyclic aromatic carbons in biomes with different amounts of organic carbon soils.

Involvement in the GLUE research program led me to an undergraduate research assistant position for Dr. Ariette Schierz. I worked with Dr. Schierz on managing mercury contaminated sediments and mercury bioaccumulation in aquatic ecosystems by capping or by in-situ treatment. As of August 2014, I moved to TTU to earn my Ph.D.
