Students seeking future positions as K-12 STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) teachers are selected through a competitive process to become Education Scholars who work in our CISER office in year-round positions. STEM Education Scholars work with our CISER science and education faculty and staff in unique experiences to enhance their preparation to become teachers.Opportunities include:

• Teaming with master teachers in actual classrooms
• Attending professional workshops with educators
• Presenting professional workshops at the local, state and national levels.
• Leading K-12 outreach activities including science clubs for area schools, Science It's a Girl Thing Camp and Shake Hands with Your Future Camp
• Teaming with STEM Education Scholars, faculty and teachers in developing classroom materials
• Mentoring from Science Education faculty

Scholars are paid hourly (currently $8.50 per hour) and can work a maximum of 35 hours a week during the summer and at least 15 and up to 20 hours a week during the regular semesters. The program does not provide room and board during the summer or academic year and does not pay tuition and fees. The award does not qualify a student for in-state tuition. The CISER STEM Education Scholar Program is an integral part of the overall CISER Program (1992-2014) at CISER, which also supports the research activities of STEM majors who work in faculty research laboratories.

To be eligible for this program, students must be:

1. TTU undergraduates (full-time undergraduate students only);
2. in good academic standing (3.0 GPA or higher);
3. interested in a career as a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Educator;
4. either an American citizen or permanent resident or, in the case of foreign nationals, hold a visa allowing her/him to work in this country;
5. able and willing to limit their employment to this position and to limit summer courses;
6. committed to an experience that will begin in the summer
