Language & Culture Day

31 October 2018
9:00 am – 2:30 pm

Classical & Modern Languages & Literatures (formerly "Foreign Languages")
Texas Tech University

Language & Cultures is teaming up with Classics to welcome teachers and students for a day of fun and learning at Texas Tech University! This is a day to celebrate the study of languages and cultures and motivate our students to continue their studies after high school. At Language & Culture Day, participants will:

  • Experience a sample university class
  • Meet professors and university students
  • Participate in one of three fun competitions
  • Get a tour of the TTU campus
  • Learn about careers with a degree in languages/cultures

Each teacher may register up to 20 students in teams of 2-4. See the guidelines below for details. Each student must fill out a registration form and have their parent or guardian sign it. Teachers should send all signed copies to alec.cattell@ttu.edu by October 1st, 2018.

Parking

Buses may park free of charge in lot C16 (Commuter West), pictured here.

Teachers and students attending Language & Culture Day can be dropped off on Flint Avenue, just north of the intersection with 18th St. Drivers can enter the TTU campus on Flint and let people out at a bus drop off location just next to the School of Architecture. From there, it is a short walk east to the Foreign Languages building. Our sign reads "Classical & Modern Languages & Literatures." After dropping everyone off, drivers can continue north on Flint, make a left onto Main St., then make a left onto Indiana Avenue, then a right onto Texas Tech Parkway, and from there turn right into the C16 lot.

This event was made possible, in part, by a mini grant from the Humanities Center at Texas Tech University.
