Edwin B. Locke, born in Sayre, Oklahoma, in 1918, received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Texas Tech University in 1948, the year he began his professional affiliation with the Texas Employers Insurance Company, Dallas, Texas. In 1954, he became the manager of their engineering department; in 1964 their assistant secretary; and in 1966 their vice president for engineering.

Mr. Locke has served as president of the American Society of Safety Engineers, performing for the Southwest chapter in the same capacity. He is a member of the board of directors of the National Safety Council, member of its Industrial Conference, and chairman of its Standards Committee. He is a member of the Loss Control Committee of the American Mutual Insurance Alliance. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Texas and is a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers.

As first vice president, Mr. Locke serves on the board of directors and on the executive committee of the Texas Safety Association. He is a member of the board of directors of the Dallas Citizens’ Traffic Commission. In 1968, he was appointed to the Texas Radiation Advisory Board.

Mr. Locke is a member of the Mental Retardation Commission of Civitan International and vice president of a Dallas organization for fund raising for mentally retarded and deaf children.

Texas Tech confers upon Edwin B. Locke the designation: DISTINGUISHED ENGINEER.
