President's Excellence in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Awards

The President's Excellence in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Awards were created in order to recognize students, staff, and faculty for engagement in activities that promote the value of diversity and the importance of equity at Texas Tech University. The President's Excellence in Gender Equity Awards are intended to recognize individuals for their substantial contributions to activities and programs that advance the academic and professional climate of gender equity at Texas Tech.

Student Awards for Excellence in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Students nominated for this award will be evaluated on their efforts to engage in activities that promote the value of diversity and the importance of equity and inclusion at Texas Tech University. Up to three (3) students will each be awarded a $500 scholarship for their contributions to the Texas Tech community as related to advancement in research, community building, engagement, and advocacy that advances the climate of diversity, equity, and inclusion at Tech. Nominated students must have demonstrated a strong record of engagement, mentorship, campus change, and/or outreach that positively impacts the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion at Texas Tech. Undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to receive this award.

Staff Award for Excellence in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Staff members nominated for this award will be evaluated on their efforts to engage in activities that promote the value of diversity and the importance of equity and inclusion at Texas Tech University. A $1,500 professional development award will be given to a staff member in recognition of their contributions to the Texas Tech community as related to advancement in research, community building, engagement, and advocacy that advances the climate of diversity, equity, and inclusion at Tech that would be considered above and beyond the scope of their general duties and responsibilities. Nominated staff members must have demonstrated a strong record of engagement, mentorship, administration, and/or outreach that positively impacts the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Faculty Awards for Excellence in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Faculty members nominated for this award will be evaluated on their efforts to engage in activities that promote the value of diversity and the importance of equity and inclusion at Texas Tech University. A $2,500 research award will be given to a one tenured faculty member and one tenure-track faculty member who have demonstrated a strong record of published research academic visibility, teaching, mentorship, and/or outreach that positively impacts the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion. The award is based on recognition of nominated faculty members' contributions to the Texas Tech community as related to advancement in research, community building, engagement, and advocacy that advances the climate of diversity, equity, and inclusion at Tech that would be considered above and beyond the scope of their role or general research activity.

 

Faculty Award for Excellence in Gender Equity

Faculty nominees will be evaluated on their efforts, both within and outside of their instructional duties, to engage in activities that promote gender equity and the importance of gender equity at all academic levels. The $750 stipend award will be based on contributions to Texas Tech that are "beyond the call of duty" in relation to activities that advance the climate of gender equity at Tech.

Staff Award for Excellence in Gender Equity

Staff nominees will be evaluated on their efforts to engage in activities that promote gender equity at Texas Tech University. The $750 stipend award will be based on contributions to Texas Tech that are "beyond the call of duty" in relation to activities that advance the climate of gender equity at Tech.

 

Celebrate Diversity Dinner

Each Fall, the Division of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion hosts the Celebrate Diversity Dinner to recognize those within the Texas Tech and Lubbock communities who exemplify Inclusive Excellence. Additionally, the recipients of the Senator Robert L. Duncan Community Champion Award are recognized.

New Faculty Welcome Reception

Each fall, OID, in cooperation with the Office of the President and the Provost's Office, hosts a reception for all new faculty at Texas Tech University. With over 80 new faculty starting at Tech each fall, the reception gives new faculty the opportunity to meet the President, the Provost, and the university's Chief Diversity Officer/Vice President.

Faculty of Color Reception

In the spring, OID, the Office of the President, and the Provost jointly host a reception for faculty of color at Texas Tech. The purpose of the reception is to give the over 800 faculty of color at Texas Tech the opportunity to meet the President, the Provost, and the Chief Diversity Officer, as well as to learn about the support available to faculty of color at the university.
