TRIO - Upward Bound

TRIO Upward Bound (UB) is a free college preparatory program for high school students funded by the U.S. Department of Education. Upward Bound is designed to promote the academic skills and motivation necessary to complete high school and prepare to enter and succeed in college. Upward Bound provides services during the academic school year and includes a summer component during June & July. Essential services include instruction, tutoring, and academic advising. Participants are expected to actively participate & engage in all activities.

  • College summer residential & bridge program

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Potential first-generation college student 
  2. Meet federal income guidelines
  3. U.S. citizen or Permanent resident of the U.S.
  4. Demonstrate a need for academic support
  5. Enrolled in Lubbock ISD: Coronado, Estacado, Lubbock, or 
     Monterey High School

Potential first- generation means:

  • An individual neither of whose natural or adoptive parents received a baccalaureate degree; or
  • A student who, prior to the age of 18, regularly resided with and received support from only one natural or adoptive parent and whose supporting parent did not receive a baccalaureate degree.
