Doctoral Support Center Events
Brown Bag Speaker Series
The Brown Bag Speaker Series is a series of hybrid (online and onsite) lectures covering a variety of topics related to scholarly writing and research. These lunch-hour sessions begin at 12:00 pm (noon) Central Time and end by 1:00 pm.
DSC Rallies and Retreats
The DSC offers featured events each semester to support doctoral students in their writing and research. Rallies generally center on a theme and provide students targeted instruction, including time to try out the new skills and receive immediate feedback. Retreats seek to pull students away from their daily distractions at home and at work to carve out a place and time to focus on writing. These activities enhance community engagement for students who may be detached from the academic community. These events may be conducted online, in a face-to-face setting, or in a hybrid environment. DSC Writing Coaches are available at all events to provide instruction, motivation, and support.
Other Writing & Research Enrichment Activities
The DSC is constantly looking for new ways to connect with our students. Some of our current, past, and recurring activities include providing dedicated support for those students applying to and attending the SERA Annual Meetings, providing a virtual and physical space for doctoral student writing groups, hosting an International Write-In and Pot Luck dinner and other activities; we seek to bring the DSC to YOU!
