Robert González Elected to Second Vice President Position

By Jessica Thomas, Section Manager

In September of 2018 the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA) called for board of director nominations, with three positions open: one second vice president and two at-large directors. Robert González, director of the El Paso Program in Architecture at Texas Tech University, was one of several candidates nominated for these leadership roles. In March 2019 we were delighted to announce that González had been elected to the second vice president position of the ACSA Board of Directors.

Achieving this prestigious honor is no simple feat, as the vice presidency represents the association's values, advancing pedagogy and architectural voice. González faced robust competition on the ballot, which was reviewed and voted on by 137 accredited full-member schools. Each full-member school has a faculty councilor that is responsible for engaging with its colleagues to obtain their views on the candidates. They then submit the vote of the school they represent on behalf of all its faculty members.

The board of directors is empowered to transact all business for the association and adopt rules to address policy issues. The second vice president serves on the board for a four-year term, beginning on July 1. During his tenure, González will transition from second vice president to first vice president in 2020, to president in 2021 and past president in 2023. We look forward to the positive impact González will have as a leader in the ACSA and his continued efforts as the dynamic director of the El Paso Program in Architecture at Texas Tech University.
